Has everyone recovered from the incredible weekend of tennis?
I know I have. It was great and I'm so happy for tennis right now. Fed and Serena should enjoy their moments, but life does go on and the tour is certainly moving forward.
There are two tournaments in the WTA this week. I'll make my quick picks here.
First of all, I have Halep winning in St. Petersburg. This is exactly the type of tournament she likes to win, as long as it's not too big she;s great.
Speaking of winning, my girl DV beat Ostapenko, 6-0, 6-4 in the first round. DV was a lucky loser and then thumped the No. 33 player in the world. The word loser should never be associated with DV, she's always a winner in my book. 2017 just keeps getting better and better.
Don't forget in three months it's the return of the queen. 2017 is going to be a great year.
In Taiwan, I'm picking one of my new fave players - Elina Svitolina. She is the top seed, and I see no reason why she shouldn't take it all. This girl will be top 10 very soon.
As tennis fans this weekend's Australian Open finals are as good as it gets. Enjoy the moments, savor them like a fine wine (if you're into that stuff).
It's very possible it could be the last time we see the Williams Sisters in a final together. It could be the last time we get a Fedal final.
The Williams Sisters are an amazing story. Despite their age they are still here going strong. Serena will break the record this weekend, and she'll do it against her sister, Venus. I don't she could ask for a better way to do it.
As for the men, Fed and Rafa are the two greatest players in the game. Anytime you get to see them play you should be salivating. But to see them in a slam final is just epic.
This has been one Australian Open for the ages and certainly one to remember forever. Four of the greatest champions of all time - it simply doesn't get any better than this. The four champions have a combined 60 slam titles between them - soon to be 62.
Here's my pick for the men's final.
Rafa d. Fed in 5: I will be rooting for Fed, but I just think Rafa is the best player in the world right now. There I said it. He has owned Fed in their rivalry, especially Fed's one-handed backhand. Either way I hope this is an epic match, and I hope all the fans soak it up because we may never see this again.
So we have a Williams Sisters final, will we have a Rafa-fed final as well. Damn straight we will.
Fed took longer than needed to advance to the final and I have to wonder if it will hurt him in a few days. Still, he's there. Now Rafa just has to beat Grigs to set-up the match we've all been waiting for.
Rafa d. Grigs in 4: I'll give Grigs one set, but he won't stop the Rafa-Fed showdown. Rafa is playing great tennis, and in reality might be the best player in the world at this time.
I will also go ahead and pick the Williams Sisters final.
Serena d. Venus in 3: I think Serena will be a little nervous with all that's at stake and even more so since she's playing her sister. But Serena will recover and capture slam No. 23 in a thriller. It could be the last time we see them play in a slam final, so make sure to watch and enjoy the moment. It is a special one.
